Confirmed: Level 80 Runnyeye Incoming

In case you missed it, SOE Designer, Steve “Saavedra” Kramer, has been working on a level 80 version of Runnyeye:

The best revamps (to me, of course!) are the ones where I get to scrap everything without worrying about what was in there before, and make an entirely new zone out of it. I was given a choice of zones to do this with a few months ago, and eventually settled on making a level 80 instance of Runnyeye.

Runnyeye itself has presented some challenges, but I think it’s coming together nicely after some much needed housecleaning. When I first went into the zone completely empty, I couldn’t help but think that the goblins really need to clean up this dump, so the first thing I did was start deleting all of the trash piles and modifying the zone art to fit my needs.

The goblins were expecting some guests after all, and it wouldn’t do to invite dignitaries into a hovel.

Confirmed updates on the specifics of this dungeon will be posted after the jump (keep checking back).

Also confirmed:

  • This will be a separate instance of Runnyeye. The original Runnyeye is not going anywhere.
  • The new version of Runnyeye will be instanced – not open as the first Runnyeye was.
  • The dungeon is being designed for level 80 groups.
  • Loot drops are still being finalized.
  • At this time, there are no plans for tradeskill add-ons with this dungeon.

Goblins… living without filth? I sense a disconnect here.

My question is, why are they working on something like this when they could be pouring their energies into Kurn’s Tower? Honestly, it’s a great idea to add high level content to some of the lower level zones so we have reasons to go back to those zones after out-leveling them. But, why go back and do that when you have current zones like Fens with obvious dungeons unfinished?

On a related note, why even put out Shard of Hate first? Kurn’s should have been the priority imo.

Who says they’re not working on both?

I will venture to gues that it probably uses far fewer resources to revamp an existing dungeon, using existing art, and existing (and tested) geometry than it does to create a brand new dungeon with a new layout, new art, etc.

From a story standpoint, I’m going to guess that Runnyeye was chosen to perhaps either deal more with the Evil Eyes, or perhaps the Shadowed Men or Nightbloods. There’s certainly a link between the Evil Eyes and the denizens of the Void.

I’d guess at this since I’m certainly under the impression that the next expansion will deal with the Void in some fashion. Assuming that’s the case, it wouldn’t be hard to tie Runnyeye in.
