Auto Assault on the PS3?

Could City of Heroes be coming to the PS3?  What about Lineage III? Auto Assault?

According to Sony’s announcement at E3, it’s not just possible – but even likely.  You see, at E3, Sony has announced that NC Soft has will be producing all future MMOG’s “exclusively” for the Playstation 3.

If this is the case, it could explain why NC Soft isn’t necessarily releasing it’s iron grip on the Auto Assault property just yet.  It  could also explain the suddeness of the announcements lately regarding the imminent shut down of service just prior to E3.

It’s definately interesting, to say the least.

The announcement was from Sony Computer Entertaniment of America, which is a distinct and seperate business unit from Sony Online Entertainment. I know, some people will say “It’s all Sony in the end,” but the way the business groups are setup, they are effectively different companies.

As for Auto Assault, NetDevil still owns the code (but not the IP) and they seemed to be pretty blunt about NCSoft shelving the product. Any console port needs NetDevil’s cooperation and it sounded like they were not being asked for anything.

So NCSoft hanging on to their part of AA might be seen as a sign of AA on PS3, but NCSoft leaving part of the product in the hands of NetDevil negates that somewhat for the moment.

I corrected the references to SOE as opposed to Sony. I’ve posted so much about SOE these days that the mistake was bound to happen soon enough.

As for the possibility of AutoAssault coming out on the PS3 eventually, I wouldn’t rule it out. NC Soft has to be holding on to the property for a reason – and the timing of the announcements does lend itself open to the idea.

I’ve heard that Auto Assault is on the out?

SoE next acquisition on Station Access? lol

I’m in charge of many petty details at work and some times it takes an effort to drop that when I go home. (Plus SCEA corporate uses one of the products on which I worked.)

A lot of people, including NetDevil, have said that AA would make a great console title. I just cannot imagine that announcing that the game couldn’t make it on the PC and shutting it down is the best way to pave a path to success on the PS3.

Stranger things have happened though, and it does seem odd that they would rather sit on the game than find a way to keep it running or get some money back by selling it to another company. Of course, dumber things have happened than a company a company taking a bigger loss on an asset than they had to.

I really don’t like the wording on that. They will not be making all mmo’s exclusively for the PS3, rather there will be certain mmo’s that will be PS3 exclusive.

Maybe I’m just being anal, but all ncsoft games becoming ps3 exclusive made me do a double take with hot coffee shooting out of my nose whilst my brain did a back flip yelling wtf?

    From the article:
“That’s right, NCSoft will, apparently, soon be creating their distinctive MMOGs exclusively for Sony’s PS3. This appears to include all future games from NCSoft, all you who are waiting for Lineage 3 with bated breath may need to start checking into PS3s”

  7. unbeliever says:

yeah, warcry made a booboo I think, though the way the E3 speech was worded is to blame.

there is just no way such a large publisher would put all their IP’s on a single platform, not when their flagship titles are doing so well on PC, not when the Korean MMO market where they are the market leader is highly geared towards gaming in cyber cafes.

Only certain IP’s will be PS3 exclusive, that, or someone at NCsoft took a blow to the head,\.
